Virtue Focus: Embracing Change

When a child learns to embrace change, they begin to notice the new doors and windows that open for them after a shift. Their response to changes in their lives becomes more thoughtful and less reactionary. As they grow, their ability to find success will be much higher. 

Tips for training your child to Embrace Change:

  • When unexpected changes occur, discuss the equally unexpected opportunities that will also come because of the change. Model looking beyond the immediate negative or stagnant reactions.
  • Next time you are walking in nature, point out how things have a natural order of change – rain to snow, leaves changing colors, seasons shifting. Emphasize that change brings new beauty.
  • Read a book together that portrays the main character learning to Embrace Change, like this book:
