Virtue Focus: Beyond Self

When a child develops the virtue of being able to see beyond themselves, they begin to notice and appreciate the needs of the people around them. Their ability to change their perspective will help them throughout their lives.

Tips for training your child to develop the ability to see beyond themselves:

  • In discussions involving several people, be sure to point out the differing perspectives other people have.
  • Take a trip to a historical museum. Look at the exhibits and talk about how different circumstances produce different perspectives. 
  • Read a book together that portrays the main character developing the ability to see beyond themselves, like this book:
