Virtue Focus: Being a Friend

When a child develops the virtue of being a friend, they learn to see situations from their peer’s perspective, and realize how to give more to the relationship. Being a friend is a skill that blesses individuals their whole lives.

Tips for training your child to learn how to be a friend:

  • Make a practice of verbally noticing with your child features about their playmates. Model how to notice positive points and needs.
  • When playmates are in your home, play a quick game of toss the beanbag and say something we like about each other.
  • Read a book together that portrays the main character learning to be a friend, like this book:
