Virtue Focus: Advocating For Yourself

When a child develops the ability to advocate for themselves, their understanding of who they are, along with confidence in that knowledge, brings safety and progress to their lives. The goal is appropriate and positive advocating, with poise and accuracy. This is a great virtue to develop.

Tips for training your child to develop Advocacy:

  • Model appropriate and positive advocacy in your own experiences, then discuss with your child why you handled the situation the way you did.
  • When at a restaurant, let your child order for themselves. Model proper interactions then let them go.
  • Read a book together that portrays the main character developing the ability to advocate for themselves, like this book:
