I placed an order on your website. When will my book arrive?

• You’ll receive an email when your order ships. Depending on the shipping method you chose, this email may include a tracking number.

What do I do if I never received my books?

• Find your order confirmation email from us, and your shipping email from us. Then email this information to us at fulfillment@chickenscratchbooks.com

What credit cards do you accept for payment?

• We take Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. You can also use Paypal.

Why do I have to set up an account to just order a book?

• Each user must set up an account with us because the system doesn’t know if you plan to order a course or not. If you do, you must have an account to log into the course. The system recognizes an account set up as the default requirement for any purchase.

Do you take wholesale orders from resellers?

• Yes! Check out our Wholesale Orders page from the footer menu.

Do we have to complete every section of the course? 

• No. Your courses are there for you to enjoy whatever parts you choose to enjoy. You don’t have to complete one section to move onto the other. You can skip, or jump around however you choose. Or do it all. There’s great stuff in every lesson!

We purchased a course for our older son, but now his little sister wants to read the book and do the course too. Is that allowed?

• Yes! Your course purchase is lifetime access within your family. 

Is there a time limit to complete the course?

• No. You can do it all in 3 days, or take 3 years. Whatever works for you!

Are these courses available anywhere else?

• No. Our novel analysis and explore courses are only available for purchase and use right here on our website. We are the only middle grade book publisher around who has courses like this available. 

When I log into my account, my course isn’t listed in my dashboard. What happened?

Where did the name ‘Chicken Scratch Books’ come from?

• Thin air. We like chickens, and we like writing – which is sometimes called ‘chicken scratches’. So the name just happened.

How many books do you publish?

• We publish 5 or 6 books a year. About every other month, you can expect a new book to be released.

How do you find your authors?

• Our wonderful authors find us! They are excited to find a publisher that specializes in new traditional middle grade fiction. 

Are you open to author submissions?

• Yes! Here on our website is the Submission Form. We accept author submissions the first week of each month. 

What are you looking for?

• We love any genre of middle grade novels. If you aren’t sure if your story is a middle grade novel, please check out our blog. There are multiple posts that discuss what makes middle grade middle grade. We are especially interested in books with boy main characters, and books set in a homeschool setting.

Do you have any advice for would be authors?

• Sign up for our WriteLetter. It’s a weekly newsletter that you’ll receive in your inbox. It includes a monthly writing topic, video instruction, and downloadable PDFs to help you in your writing journey. We love to teach writers! 

I submitted my manuscript for consideration. When can I expect to hear from you?

• We try to respond to submissions within one to three months. Sometimes it does take longer… But we always respond.
