We are so excited to tell you about Willowmere by Andrea Cox Christen. This adventurous fantasy is about the power of stories, and the strength of unity.
Here’s the back cover blurb:
“To Pea, Love Mom”
…reads the necklace twelve-year-old Pea finds stuck high in the willow tree Mom had planted long ago on their ranch. Pea doesn’t know how it got there. If Mom were alive, she would ask her. But when Pea takes the necklace, the tree reveals a secret tunnel to Willowmere—the magical world built by her mom’s stories.
Pea crawls through the tunnel and realizes that Willowmere is crumbling. Frightening dangers lurk behind each tree, and magic is deteriorating into chaos. All she learns seems to contradict everything she knows.
But could Mom still be alive in Willowmere? If Pea can learn to trust her new friends, and harness the power of stories, she might just save the world.
But she’ll have to save herself first.

PDF Activity Sheet
In Willowmere, Pea learns how to use a variety of everyday objects in unique ways to help her save the world. Many of these items were treasures left by her mom. Pea never saw them as particularly useful, until she really needed them to be. We’ve created a fun game to play that mixes drawing skills with creative ways to use everyday objects.

We love a fun middle grade story that moves in twists and turns and uncovers just the right amount of information for the protagonist to save the day. In this case – Pea not only has to save herself, but the magical world her mom built from stories too. Along the way, she learns the power of unity.
Hi Kiri,
I’m reading Willowmere and am on page 126. I find it to be a cross between The Wizard of Oz and The Lord of the Rings.
